How long have you been at Purefy, and what did you do previously?
I’ve been with Purefy for almost two years now, which honestly seems crazy to me. Time flies! Before I took on my role as Operations Manager, I started at Purefy as an Operations Analyst. Before joining Purefy, I worked in both financial services and B2B appliance sales in Richmond, VA and New York City.
Tell us something interesting about yourself, that most people wouldn’t guess.
I don’t want to repeat myself from the Our Team section here. I was briefly a music blogger and have done photography work for a popular beer blog. I also used to act as a hobby. I’m not saying there is a student film starring me out there somewhere, but there also is not not one.
Describe your role at Purefy. What does a typical day look like?
The Operations team makes the trains run on time. I’m just here to support them. A typical day involves assigning our loan applications so that each of our borrowers has a dedicated contact and then overseeing all our active applications. I help facilitate the communication between our analysts and our document processors and then back to our borrowers. I also manage relationships with some of our larger partners and have recently been dipping my toe into marketing, which has been a great learning experience.
Any tips for people looking into student loans or student loan refinancing?
Shop around and know what questions to ask. Rate comparison tools like ours are great, but also don’t be afraid to pick up the phone if you have a question about something like deferment policies or if you can set up multiple payments in the same billing cycle (which saves you money). A low rate is great but be sure you know what you’re signing up for.
What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
I really enjoy travelling. If I can find the time to get out of town for a couple days, I’ll take it. If I’m staying in Richmond, I like to cook or go out to eat. Really, eating is the reason I like to travel as well. So basically, anything with food. Also, if a band I like is playing nearby, I’ll probably be there.
What do you like most about Purefy?
I love seeing how the company is growing. We’ve built up the team significantly since I’ve been here, and are still hiring more. The growth brings challenges, but that’s part of the fun!
I also love that our goal truly is to help people and to be as transparent as we can be about this often-complicated industry.
